Safety audits are conducted to determine the effectiveness of the developed safety management system and to identify the strengths and opportunities for improvements. Safety audits may be performed on a company’s safety management system for the purpose of obtaining a “Certificate of Recognition” (COR).
Corrigal Safety Consulting is a certified auditing company who is aligned with Alberta, British Columbia & Saskatchewan based certifying partnerships. These partnerships include:
- Energy Safety Canada
- Alberta Association for Safety Partnerships
A Certificate of Recognition (COR) is awarded to employers who develop a health and safety programs that meet established standards. Certificates are issued by Alberta Employment and Immigration and are co-signed by Certifying Partners.
Achieving and maintaining a valid COR is required for earning a financial incentive through the WCB Partnerships in Injury Reduction program. Also, it is not unusual for Alberta corporations to expect contractors bidding on projects to hold a valid COR.
There are two types of Health & Safety Certificate of Recognition programs available:
- A Regular Certificate of Recognition (COR) applies to companies of 11 employees or more
- A Small Employer Certificate of Recognition (SECOR) applies to companies of 10 or
A COR recognizes that the employer’s health and safety management system has been evaluated by a certified auditor and found to meet Partnerships standards.
Effective health and safety management systems have been shown to have an impact on reducing injuries. Eliminating the social and financial effects of injuries can strengthen the business success of participating employers.
